Lana's commitment to public safety is unwavering, and events like 'Puppaccinos with Police', where police officers connect with the community and their furry friends, underscore the importance of these relationships. As the district continues to grow, Lana is dedicated to ensuring it remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Lana is deeply committed to enhancing the connection between the community and local law enforcement. Her support for the Citizens Academy reflects this dedication, and she is honored to be accepted into the 49th class. This fourteen-week program, coordinated by the City Operations Division, is held twice a year on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. It provides an invaluable opportunity for residents and those who work in the City to gain a thorough understanding of police work and foster better community relations.
The Citizens Academy offers participants insights into various aspects of law enforcement, including communications and dispatch, crime scene investigation, gangs and graffiti, investigations, the K-9 program, special weapons and tactics (SWAT), traffic units, and the use of force. This immersive curriculum helps individuals appreciate the complexities of policing and enables officers and staff to better engage with the community.
As a parent, Lana strives to instill in her children the importance of building strong, positive relationships with their local police officers. Witnessing their excitement and admiration for the community's law enforcement highlights the value of these connections to her. She is dedicated to supporting the police department and fostering mutual respect and cooperation. Lana looks forward to the opportunity to work closely with the Tustin PD, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all residents.
Lana is a strong advocate for the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and is actively working to enhance community engagement through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course. She recognizes the importance of equipping residents with essential emergency preparedness skills, and believes that a structured approach through FEMA can make a significant difference.
To drive enrollment, Lana has been collaborating with homeowners’ associations (HOAs) to ensure diverse community representation. By engaging with HOA members, she aims to promote the CERT course as a vital resource for local residents, fostering a culture of safety and resilience.
Lana’s work with empowering young girls directly contributes to increasing representation of women in the first responder field. By encouraging them to engage in emergency preparedness and take on leadership roles, she aims to inspire them to consider careers in firefighting and emergency services.
Highlighting role models and providing training opportunities helps break down barriers and challenges stereotypes about women in these fields. By fostering skills and confidence in young women, Lana is contributing to a future where more women feel empowered to pursue careers in firefighting and related professions, ultimately leading to a more diverse and inclusive workforce in the fire service.
